Komets hold first place
in Turner Conference
Tulsa here for "Pink The Rink" weekend Friday and
Saturday
Fort Wayne, IN -- The
Komets completed week 13 holding first place in the
Turner Conference for the fifth straight week. The
Komets were 0-2-1 for the week, gaining a point to
remain tied with Wichita overall in the CHL with 46
points.
The Komets opened the week with a 2-1 home setback
to Bloomington Friday as the Blaze evened the season
series with Fort Wayne at 3-3-0. Saturday the
Komets dropped a 3-1 affair at Evansville, snapping
a four-game win streak against the IceMen. Sunday
the Mavericks in Missouri galloped back from a 3-1
deficit to clip the K’s
4-3 in a shootout.
Komets of the week—Artem Podshendyalov scored
a point in each of the three games (2 goals, 1
assist) to finish with a three-game point streak.
Bobby Chaumont also posted a three-point week (1
goal, 2 assists). Colin Chaulk
had the only multi-point game of the week scoring a
goal and adding an assist in the Komets’ 4-3
shootout loss Sunday at Missouri.
Netminder Nick Boucher
(19-8-1) stopped 55 of 60 shots for
a 2.53 goals-against
average and .917 save percentage for the week to
rank second in the CHL with a 2.32 goals-against
average and .920 save percentage after 29 games.
Goaltender Gerry Festa
posted his second game with Fort Wayne Sunday at
Missouri making 31 saves on 34 shots in regulation
and stopping three of five Maverick shootout
attempts.
Special K’s—The
Komets scored two power play goals on 17 chances and
were successful on 12 of 13 penalty kills in the
three games played. Fort Wayne has the best road
power play conversion at 25.4% (17/67) and is tied
with Allen for best overall at 23.6% (30/157).
Stingy D—The Komets have
allowed a league low 94 goals against and share that
distinction with two other teams, both in the Turner
Conference. Evansville and Rapid City also
have only surrendered 94 goals to date.
Milestones—Right wing Bobby Chaumont
registered his 200th career point with an
assist in Friday’s home game against Bloomington.
Left wing Jessie Bennefield
skated his 200th CHL career game
Saturday at Evansville.
GAMES THIS WEEK
The Komets will skate three games in three
nights again this weekend starting with hosting
Tulsa for a pair Friday and Saturday. Sunday
the Komets travel to Quad City. Then the
Komets will hit the road for two weeks to make way
for the annual Shrine Circus at the Coliseum.
• Oilers
invade for doubleheader weekend starting Friday--
The Tulsa Oilers will make their only appearance of
the season this weekend with back-to-back games on
Coliseum ice Friday, at 8pm, and Saturday at 7:30pm.
It will mark the first meetings ever for the Oilers
and Komets. The Oilers get off to an early
start this week with a 1:00pm CT game today at Allen
before returning home to host Missouri Tuesday.
Tulsa (16-13-3, 35 points) resides in fifth place in
the Berry Conference after losing their only game of
the week to Allen Saturday 5-2 for a five-game
winless streak (0-4-1). After this weekend,
the Komets will complete the series against the
Oilers with a trip to Tulsa Tuesday, Feb. 21.
• Komets skate at Quad City Sunday--
The Komets will face conference rival Quad City
Sunday at 5:05pm ET at the
i Wireless Center (9,000) in Moline, Illinois.
It's the fourth of nine meetings this season and the
second of five at Quad City. The Mallards
(21-13-1, 43 points) are on the Komets' heels three
points out of first place in the Turner Conference
entering this week. Quad City skates three
games before hosting the Komets Sunday. The
Mallards will welcome Evansville Tuesday
before traveling to Evansville for a pair against
the IceMen Friday and Saturday. The Mallards were
cooled in Bloomington Sunday 2-1 after posting three
straight wins and are 4-3-0 in their last seven
games.
Friday night Marathon Nights --
Continuing this year, Friday
nights are Marathon Nights at Komet home games. Fans can
take advantage of buy-one-get-one-free ticket offers for any Friday night home game. Fill Up Cards are available at
all participating
Marathon stations.
Pink the Rink this weekend-- The Komets and
the Vera Bradley Foundation have teamed up to fight
breast cancer
and
promote awareness for early detection and treatment
by presenting a "Pink The Rink" weekend this weekend
when Tulsa visits Friday at 8pm and Saturday at
7:30pm. The weekend will be dedicated to the
support of breast cancer awareness, early detection
and treatment. The Komets will don
one-of-a-kind white jerseys trimmed in pink and
black. The jerseys will be sold in a silent
auction starting with the game Friday and ending
after the second intermission Saturday.
Special pink wearables and souvenirs will be sold
each night in addition to the jersey auction and a
portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Vera
Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer.

half-hour show

televised live from Wrigley Field Bar and Grill each
week with INC's Tommy Schoegler as host and will feature highlights, interviews
and call-ins as Komet players and personnel serve as
co-hosts.
TONIGHT, Jan. 16, goaltender Nick Boucher
and Komet hall-of-fame goalie Chuck Adamson will be special guests.
60th
Anniversary Komet Hockey on WOWO -- The
Komets and WOWO Radio
News-Talk 1190 AM
have partnered once again for 2011-12. Broadcaster Bob Chase
will call the action for his 59th consecutive season
radio-rinkside. All games broadcast on radio,
home and away, can be heard online at
Xfinity KometCast. Most games will be
broadcast on WOWO Radio News-Talk 1190 AM with ESPN
Radio AM 1380 as an alternative when scheduling
conflicts occur.
