Fort Wayne, IN
— The Komets will be busy ringing out the old and bringing in
the new this week with four games slated in five nights.
The busy week starts at home against the Dayton Gems Tuesday
night at 7:30pm. It will be the fourth of 15 meetings this
season and the second of six in Fort Wayne. The Komets
(15-10-0-1, 31 points) dulled the Gem's debut in Fort Wayne Nov.
14 in overtime 2-1 and blanked the Gems at Dayton Dec. 5 in the
last meeting 3-0. Dayton (12-14-3-1, 28 points) is
struggling to hold on to fifth place in the IHL after losing
their last three games played and are 1-5-0-1 in their last
seven games. Tuesday night's game will be the first of a
home-and-home midweek series with a rematch Wednesday night at
Hara Arena at 7pm.
Thursday the Komets will host Bloomington (14-9-1-2, 31 points)
at 7:30pm for the 53rd Fort Wayne New Year's Eve home game.
The Komets have won the last seven straight New Year's Eve games
and are 35-13-3-1 in 52 Fort Wayne New Year's Eve games since
the tradition started in 1955. It will be the second time
the PrairieThunder spent New Year's Eve in Fort Wayne.
Bloomington rang in 2008 with a 4-1 loss to the Komets in their
first New Year's Eve appearance. The Komets and Thunder
are tied for third place in the IHL for the third straight week
as week 12 begins. Bloomington hosts Muskegon Tuesday
before making the trip to Fort Wayne Thursday.
Saturday the Komets begin the New Year with a 7:30pm faceoff at
Perani Arena in Flint. The Komets will have a chance to
avenge their 4-1 loss at Flint Sunday. It will be the
fourth of 12 meetings this season with the Komets holding a
3-1-0-0 series edge. The Generals will host Quad City
Wednesday before facing the Komets Saturday.
