Fort Wayne, IN
— This week the Komets will skate three games in three nights
before breaking for the Christmas holiday. The Komets
(12-8-0-1) host the Quad City Mallards (6-10-2-1) Friday at 8pm
and then travel to Moline, Illinois for a rematch Saturday at
the iwireless Center at 8:05pm (Fort Wayne time). The
Mallards finished last week with a 2-1 home win over the Flint
Generals Sunday to snap a three-game losing streak.
Friday's game will be the fifth of 15 meetings this season and
the third of eight in Fort Wayne for Quad City. The Komets
lead the series 3-0-0-1 after suffering a 3-2 shootout loss in
the last meeting Dec. 4 on Coliseum ice. The Mallards will
skate at Bloomington Wednesday before their Fort Wayne
appearance Friday. Saturday's rematch at Quad City will
be the Komets' third of seven games at the iwireless Center.
Sunday the Komets complete the three-game weekend at Bloomington
at 5:05pm (Fort Wayne time). The PrairieThunder (11-7-1-2)
are tied with Fort Wayne for third place in the IHL going into
this week's play after earning two straight wins Friday and
Sunday. This Sunday's match at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum in
Bloomington, Illinois, is the fourth of 12 meetings this year.
The Komets lead the series 2-1-0-0. The Thunder will host
Quad City Wednesday and the Muskegon Lumberjacks Saturday before
welcoming the Komets Sunday.
About last week
The Komets started the week with a 4-2 loss to the visiting Port
Huron Icehawks Wednesday and were turned back in Port Huron 2-0
Saturday. It's only the second time this season the Komets
lost two straight in regulation and have not lost more than two
in a row in 85 games dating back to Nov. 21, 2008.
Haun's streak.....goaltender Tim Haun has started 15
straight games since Nov. 6. Haun is one start shy of Keven Reiter's 16 straight games
in 2007-08.
Duffus to the rescue.....Parris Duffus, 39 and a Fort
Wayne career firefighter, was called on to finish the last 31
seconds of the Komet game at Port Huron Saturday marking his
first pro appearance since he completed his 11-year career while
a member of the 2002-03 Komets. Incidentally, his last pro
game was at Port Huron Jan. 18, 2003, a 5-1 loss.
900 games and counting.....defenseman Guy Dupuis
skated his 900th game (regular season and playoffs) as a Komet
Wednesday and sets a new record of Fort Wayne career games
played by a single player with each appearance.
Tyler Sims signs with Elmira.....goalie Tyler Sims,
who has been on emergency goaltender status with the Komets the
past 14 games since Nov. 13, signed with the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL Saturday and
appeared in his first game of the season Sunday night.
Sims suffered a 2-1 shootout loss stopping 36 of 37 shots before
allowing two goals on four Toledo attempts in the shootout.
Syroczynski re-called by Norfolk.....Matt
Syroczynski (LW) was re-called by the AHL's Norfolk Admirals
Thursday after scoring a goal and adding an assist in the Komets'
4-2 home loss to Port Huron Wednesday. Syroczynski
appeared in both Admirals games over the weekend scoring a goal
in Norfolk's 5-4 home win Saturday.
Friday night Marathon Nights.....Friday
nights are Marathon Nights at Komet home games. Fans can
take advantage of a buy-one-get-one-free ticket offer
with two fill-ups when the Komets host Quad City this Friday at
8pm. Fill Up Cards are available at participating Marathon stations.
