Fort Wayne, IN
— The Komets will host the Port Huron Icehawks Wednesday in the
first of seven Wild Wednesday Komet home games this season.
It's the debut of special Wednesday nights presented by the Fort
Wayne Children's Zoo where fans can visit the Zoo's booth in the
Coliseum lobby to see live animals from the zoo and register for
chances to win zoo related prizes.
The Komets will face the Hawks on the ice at 7:30pm in the
second of six Fort Wayne meetings. It will be the third of
11 meetings this season overall with the series currently tied
1-1. The Komets turned back the Icehawks in the last
meeting 4-2 Nov. 28 in Fort Wayne. Port Huron and the
Komets have identical records going into the week at 12-6-0-1
for 25 points and trail first-place Muskegon by five points.
The Hawks are coming off a 7-4 win at Dayton Sunday night after
suffering a 3-0 shutout loss at Muskegon Friday. Port
Huron is 4-2-0-1 in their last seven games while Fort Wayne is
5-2-0-1 in their last eight. The Icehawks are led by right
winger Mike Kinnie with 13 goals and 18 points. However
Kinnie has not been in the Port Huron lineup their last three
games (1-2-0).
The Komets will complete week nine with a visit to Port Huron
Saturday for a 7:30pm faceoff. The Icehawks will host
Muskegon Friday before facing the Komets Saturday.
About last week
The Komets started the week with a 3-2 home shootout loss to the
Quad City Mallards Friday. It was the first shootout loss
for Fort Wayne this season. The Komets are 4-1 in games
needing extra time this year. Saturday the Komets were
shut out 3-0 at Dayton for the first shut out against the Komets
on the road in four years. The last time was Dec. 30, 2005
at Kalamazoo 4-0. Sunday the Komets salvaged three points
out of the weekend with a 3-2 overtime win over the visiting
Flint Generals.
Shooting Komets.....the Komets out-shot their opponents
in each of the three games played for the week and have out-shot
opponnents in seven straight games and in 15 of 19 this season.
Fort Wayne leads the IHL with an average of 32.6 shots per game
while ranking second allowing 28.6 shots per game. The
stingy Komet defense has also surrendered only 47 goals in 19
games for an IHL best 2.47 goals-against average per game.
Haun's streak.....goaltender Tim Haun has started 13
straight games. The last time a Fort Wayne goalie started
more consecutive games was Keven Reiter with 16 straight games
in 2007-08. Haun leads IHL netminders with 15 games played
and 914 total minutes.
Chwedoruk's streak.....Justin Chwedoruk (RW) had his
goal-scoring streak snapped at an IHL season-high six games (6
goals) Saturday, Dec. 5 at Dayton.
Closing in on 900......defenseman Guy Dupuis, who sets a
new Komet record for games played with each appearance, is
expected to skate his 900th Fort Wayne game (regular season and
playoffs) Wednesday when the Komets host Port Huron.
Dupuis is also 16 points from tying the Komet record of regular
season points by a defenseman set by Lionel Repka at 492.
