Fort Wayne, IN
— The Komets will host a home double-header weekend this weekend
when the Quad City Mallards visit Friday night at 8:00 and the
Flint Generals return for Fort Wayne's first of five Sunday
matinees this year.
Friday night the Mallards make their second of eight visits to
Memorial Coliseum. The Komets clipped the Mallards 2-1 in
their first visit of the season Nov. 13. The Komets defeated the Mallards
in a 4-3 shootout at Quad City in the last meeting Nov. 22 to
take a 3-0-0-0 series lead on the season. The Mallards
(4-7-2-1, 11 points) are battling to get out of the IHL cellar
trailing the sixth-place Flint Generals by a point entering week
eight of 2009-10. Quad City completed last week with a
pair of wins and are 3-1-1-1 in their last six games. The
Mallards are idle this week until they visit Fort Wayne
Friday.
Saturday the Komets skate at Hara Arena in Dayton for the second
of nine times this season. The Komets are unbeaten by
Dayton (2-0-0-0) in two meetings this season after posting a 2-1
overtime win in Fort Wayne Nov. 14 in the last meeting.
The Gems (9-8-3-0, 21 points), trailing the Komets by a point,
also are starting the week after winning their last two games
and are 7-5-1-0 in their last 13 and 3-2-0-0 in their last five.
The Gems are idle until they welcome the Komets Saturday.
Sunday the Komets host the Generals at 5pm. The Generals also are
entering the week's play after finishing last weekend with two
straight wins. It's the third meeting of the campaign with
the Komets leading the series 2-0-0-0 after a 5-4 Thanksgiving
win last week against Flint. The Generals host Bloomington
Friday before traveling to Fort Wayne Sunday.
About last week
The Komets won two out of three for the week gaining four points
and moving up to an IHL second-best .688 winning percentage
(11-5-0-0, 22 points). The Komets started the week with a
5-4 home win in front of a record Fort Wayne Thanksgiving night
crowd of 8,243, the largest in the 48-year history of Fort
Wayne's traditional Thanksgiving night game.
Friday the Komets dropped a 3-1 decision at Muskegon.
Saturday the Komets recovered with a 4-2 home win against the
Port Huron Icehawks to improve to 6-1-0-0 in seven home games
this season.
Komet goalie gets two assists in one game:
Tim Haun passed two assists in the Komets' 5-4 Thanksgiving home
win over Flint becoming the first Komet goalie to register two
assists in a single game since Aaron MacDonald did it on Nov. 6,
1999 against the visiting Ohio Gears.
Komet streaks: Justin Chwedoruk (RW) is
riding an IHL-high five-game goal scoring streak after scoring
in each of the three Komet games last week. Goaltender Tim
Haun has started the last 10 straight games, the most since
Kevin Reiter started a string of 16 consecutive games during
2007-08.
Milestones: David Hukalo appeared in his
300th Fort Wayne career game Saturday.
About November.....The Komets were 7-3-0-0 for the
month, bettering last year's November record of 4-6-1-0.
P.C. Drouin led the Komets appearing in all 10 games of the
month with 10 points (3 goals, 7 assists). Justin
Chwedoruk led with five goals and Colin Chaulk dished the most
assists with nine. Defenseman Kevin Bertram returned to
action from the I.R. list and posted a team best +4 in six
games. Netminder Tim Haun started all 10 games as Komet
goalie Nick Boucher continues on injured reserve.
About December.....The Komets will skate six games
at home and seven on the road. The Komets will be idle
Christmas week until the day after Christmas when they visit
Muskegon Saturday, Dec. 26, starting a string of six games in
eight nights, including home holiday games on Tuesday, Dec. 29
against Dayton and the traditional New Year's Eve game against
