Fort Wayne, IN
— The Komets successfully launched the home portion of 2009-10
with their sixth straight home-opener win 2-1 over Bloomington
Friday night. A sell-out crowd of 10,511 was on hand
becoming the eighth straight 10,000-plus crowd to attend a Fort
Wayne Komet home opener. The Komets are unbeaten in
regulation in 15 straight home openers for a 13-0-2 record since
September 30, 1995 when the Komets started the unbeaten string
with a 7-3 win over Houston in front of a then sell-out crowd of
8,103.
Rookies Tomas Klempa (RW) and Kaleigh Schrock (RW) each scored
their first pro goals to give the Komets the win Friday.
Saturday the Komets upended the Mallards in Quad City 3-1 as
rookie Travis Whitehead (C) scored his first pro goal and Matt
Syroczynski (LW) netted a pair. Saturday's game was the
first Komet visit to Quad City since March 2, 2007 when the
Komets clipped the Mallards 2-1.
Nick Boucher backstopped the Komets to the 2-1 win Friday night
stopping 35 of 25 Thunder shots and improves to 2-1-0-0 on the
season. Goalie Tim Haun appeared in his first game of the
season at Quad City Saturday taking the win on 28 saves.
The two wins and four points for the second week of the season moves the Komets into a first-place
tie with Port Huron going into week three of 2009-10.
This week the Komets will skate at Bloomington Friday before the
Muskegon Lumberjacks make their first of six trips to Fort Wayne
Saturday for Halloween night at 7:30.
Welcome back....right winger Sean O'Connor has
been re-signed by the Komets. O'Connor started the season
appearing in three games with the ECHL's Kalamazoo Wings (1g,
1a) prior to being added to the Komet roster. O'Connor was
a member of last year's Turner Cup Champion Komets in his rookie
season scoring 23 goals and 47 points in 59 games and added two
goals, nine assists and 11 points in the post-season run for the
cup. O'Connor was a co-winner of the Komets' Rookie of the
Year Award last season with Rick Varone.
Fort Wayne dubbed "Title Town".....the Fort
Wayne/Allen County Convention and Visitors Bureau proudly
declared Fort Wayne "Title Town" just in time for the Komets'
58th home opener Friday. The proclamation was made in the
spirit of the Komets' back-to-back Turner Cup championships, the
Fort Wayne TinCaps Midwest League baseball championship and Fort
Wayne's "All-America City" award. Komet fans can watch for
Title Town billboards courtesy of Burkhart Advertising at
several locations around Fort Wayne as part of the celebration.
Got magnetic schedules.....5,000 Komet magnetic
schedules will be given away to fans entering the building
Saturday. The popular annual giveaway is made possible by
