Fort Wayne, IN
— The Komets will officially open camp for 2009-10 with a press
luncheon Monday, Oct. 5 at noon in the Red Room at the Allen
County Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne. Lunch, interviews
and photo ops will be available at the luncheon as the Komets
get camp underway in preparation for the 58th season of Komet
Hockey in Fort Wayne.
The Komets will start camp with practices at 2pm and 3:30pm
Monday on coliseum ice. A complete release outlining this
year's training camp will be available at the press luncheon.
The Komets will be adding two players to the roster.
Third-year pros Toby Lafrance (C) and Vincent Zaore-Vanie (D)
are expected to arrive in time for the start of camp Monday.
Lafrance, 22, has skated the past two seasons in the ECHL.
He appeared in 31 games last year with Johnstown scoring six
goals and 16 points. Lafrance maintains rookie status in
the IHL as he has appeared in exactly 60 games as a pro thru
last season.
Zaore-Vanie, 23, registered five assists and six points in 42
games last season with the CHL's Laredo Bucks.
The Komets also announced Thursday that winger Mitch Woods will
not be attending the Komet camp. Woods has decided to
remain back home and not risk losing his current job.
"Both Mitch and his fiancee were told in early summer they could
get a leave of absence for the hockey season, but unfortunately
their leaves were cancelled," said Komet general manager David
Franke. "However, there is a good chance Mitch could join
the Komets later in the season and only miss a short period of
time on his job at home. We'll just have to wait and see."
The Komets will have at least 33 players attending camp.
The
preseason roster includes 18 forwards, 11 defensemen and
four goaltenders.
The Komets
will host two preseason games at the Memorial Coliseum.
Wednesday, Oct. 7, the Dayton Gems will visit for a 7:30PM
preseason tune-up. Friday, Oct. 9, the Komets will host the
Muskegon Lumberjacks at 8PM in the first of a home-and-home
exhibition series. The Komets will travel to Muskegon to
face the 'Jacks Saturday night, Oct. 10, at Walker Arena at 7pm.
The Komets will open the
2009-10
schedule on the road at Dayton Friday, Oct.
16. The Komets' 58th home opener will be Friday, Oct. 23
against the Bloomington PrairieThunder at 8pm.
