Fort Wayne, IN
— The Komets announced Tuesday that Danko Mironovic has become
the first player to re-sign for 2009-10. The second-year
defenseman made his pro debut last season capturing the IHL
Turner Cup championship with the Komets scoring two goals, 11
assists and 65 penalty minutes while appearing in 70 games.
Mironovic, 22, appeared in four seasons in the OPJHL before
making his pro start last year with Fort Wayne. The
Mississauga, Ontario native was voted the Komets' Most Improved
Player for 2008-09 at the conclusion of the regular season.
In the playoffs Mironovic skated all 11 Komet games scoring a
goal and an assist for two points while collecting 16 penalty
minutes.
"As we embark on the defense of the Huber Trophy and Turner Cup,
defense is the best place to start building the 09-10 edition of
the Fort Wayne Komets," said general manager David Franke.
"Danko Mironovic fits our defensive scheme perfectly. He
was a great surprise for us last season and we are looking for
him to be one of our top defensemen this season."
The Komets will open their defense of the IHL's coveted Turner
Cup when the 58th season of Komet Hockey in Fort Wayne gets
underway in October.
