—
The Komets will face the
Flint Generals in the IHL Turner Cup Finals starting in Fort
Wayne Saturday at 7:30pm. The series will follow a
2-2-1-1-1 format. The Komets will host game 2 Monday, May
10 at 7:30pm. The series switches to Flint for game 3
Wednesday, May 12 at 7pm and game 4 Friday, May 14 at 7:30pm.
If necessary, game 5 will be at Fort Wayne Saturday, May 15 at
7:30pm and game 6 at Flint Monday, May 17 at 7pm. If
needed, game 7 will be at Fort Wayne Wednesday, May 19 at 7:30pm
.
Both teams won their last three games of the semifinals to
survive to the finals, recovering from 3-1 series deficits. The
Komets eliminated the Port Huron Icehawks Monday and the Flint
Generals ousted the Muskegon Lumberjacks Wednesday.
During the
2009-10 regular season the Komets were 6-4-0-2 against Flint in
12 meetings while the Generals were 4-1-0-0 against the K's in
the last five meetings and 6-4-1-1 overall.
It's the first time Fort Wayne and Flint have battled each other
in an IHL Finals series. The General's won the IHL's
championship crown only once before in 1984. Fort Wayne will be
going after it's seventh Turner Cup and third straight
championship.
This will be only the third time Fort Wayne and Flint has met in
post-season action. The Komets defeated Flint 4 games to 1
in the 1973 IHL semifinals before going on to take their third
Turner Cup Championship. The Komets eliminated Flint 3
games to 2 in the 1983 IHL quarterfinals in the last post-season
meeting between Fort Wayne and Flint.
The Komets are aiming for their eighth league championship
in the 58-year history of the Fort Wayne franchise and their
unprecedented third straight. The defending Turner Cup
champion Komets are making their 50th post-season appearance
since the Fort Wayne franchise began in 1952.

playoff games Saturday and Monday are on sale at the Coliseum
