Fort Wayne, IN — The International Hockey League announced Tuesday that Fort Wayne Komet broadcaster Bob Chase has been named the 2009-10 IHL Broadcaster of the Year as selected by league broadcasters, public relations directors and members of the media.  The IHL will present the award Saturday, April 17 when the Komets host the Quad City Mallards.

Chase, 84, is currently serving his 57th consecutive season as the voice of the Fort Wayne Komets since his first season radio-rinkside 1953-54.  Chase has been witness to all of Fort Wayne's championships including 12 regular season titles and seven league playoff crowns.

Chase moved to Fort Wayne in 1953 at the age of 27 and began his radio career with WOWO Radio which included broadcasting Komet hockey games.  During the summer of 2009 Chase retired as Sports Director of WOWO Radio but has continued as play-by-play broadcaster of the Fort Wayne Komets.

In addition to his radio career and storied Komet hockey career Chase has recently published an autobiography "Live From Radio Rinkside, the Bob Chase Story".

Chase is a member of the Komets Hall of Fame and continues to reside in Fort Wayne with his wife of 60 years today, Murph.
