Fort Wayne, IN 12/30/08 --- The Komets will host the Flint Generals Wednesday night at 7:30pm for the traditional Fort Wayne New Year's Eve game, 2008 edition.  It will be the 52nd Komet New Year's Eve game since the tradition began in 1955.  The only years missed were in 1961 when the Komets skated at Indianapolis and in 1975 when the Komets did not play on New Year's Eve.

The Komets are 34-13-3-1 when playing at home on New Year's Eve.  The Komets have won the last six straight Dec. 31st home games after spoiling Bloomington's holiday visit 4-1 last year.

Wednesday night's holiday affair will be the sixth time a Flint team has rung in the new year in Fort Wayne.  The last time the Generals were in Fort Wayne for New Year's Eve was in 2000 when they lost to the Komets 6-4.  Flint has not won in Fort Wayne on New Year's Eve in five visits.

Headin' north for the weekend.....after New Year's Eve, the Komets will hit the road to Michigan three games in three nights over the weekend.  Friday the Komets skate at Port Huron at 7:30pm.  Saturday the Komets travel to Kalamazoo for a 7:30pm faceoff at Wings Stadium and Sunday the Komets visit Flint for a 4pm faceoff at Perani Arena.

It's a new Komet record.....the Komets dropped a 4-3 shootout decision Monday night to the visiting Kalamazoo Wings.  The shootout needed 14 rounds to determine a winner setting a new Fort Wayne record of most shootout rounds in a game.  The Wings outscored the Komets in the shootout 4-3.  The old record of 13 shootout rounds was set twice before.  Nov. 9, 1996 the Chicago Wolves (IHL) needed 13 rounds to defeat the Komets (3-2 in the shootout) and on Feb. 3, 2004 Richmond (UHL) took 13 rounds to clip the Komets with a 2-1 score in the extra frame.

Curadea off to Norfolk, again.....center Mathieu Curadeau has been recalled by the AHL's Norfolk Admirals.  It will be the second trip to Norfolk for Curadeau this season.  The skater posted 2 goals in 12 games with the Admirals during his first stay with the AHL team.  The second-year skater, reassigned to Fort Wayne Sunday, led the Komets with 13 goals in 14 games and accumulated 16 penalty minutes prior to his first call-up to the AHL in November.  Curadeau added a goal and six penalty minutes to his Komet totals Monday night against the visiting Kalamazoo Wings in his only appearance during his short return to Fort Wayne.

Be on time in 2009 with your Komet Kalendar.....the first 5,000 fans at the Komets game New Year's Eve will get a free 2009 Komets Kalendar, courtesy of Lincoln Printing and TSpec.  In addition, the Komets will ring out 2008 in their special  Technology Specialists commemorative Turner Cup Jerseys.

Tickets.....Komet tickets are on sale at the Coliseum Ticket Office and online at www.ticketmaster.com.  The Komets offer discounts on group tickets sold at the Komet office at 1010 Memorial Way in Fort Wayne.  For more information visit the Komet office, or the Komets' website at www.komets.com, or call 260-483-0011.
