Fort Wayne, IN — The Komets completed week nine of
2008-09 sweeping all three road games before suffering a 4-1
setback Saturday to the visiting Port Huron Icehawks. The
Komets gained six points in the week's play to improve to
13-8-1-0 for 27 points and second place in the IHL, one point
behind first-place Port Huron and two points ahead of
third-place Muskegon in the tight race at the top of the league.
In review of last week, the Komets extended their win string to
four games with three straight road wins. Tuesday the
Komets took a 3-2 victory out of Port Huron. Thursday the
Komets clipped the Generals at Flint 4-3 and Friday the
Lumberjacks in Muskegon became the Komets' third straight victim
on the road 3-1. Saturday the Komets returned to Fort
Wayne and dropped a 4-1 decision to Port Huron.
This week the Komets will start a home-and-home series against
the Lumberjacks at Muskegon Friday at 7pm. Saturday
the Komets host the Jacks at 7:30pm to start a weekend home
double-header prior to the Christmas holiday. The
Lumberjacks are idle this week until they host Fort Wayne
Friday. Muskegon has lost their last two outings including
the 3-1 loss to the Komets last Friday night at L.C. Walker
Arena. This Friday's game is the 5th of 15 meetings this
season. Fort Wayne trails the series 1-3-0-0 after winning
it's first game against the Jacks last Friday night.
Sunday the Komets finish three-games in as many nights when they
welcome the Kalamazoo Wings to town for a 5pm faceoff.
Kalamazoo has been alternating wins and losses lately, going
2-3-0-0 in their last five games after posting an eight-game
winning streak. Kalamazoo skates at Port Huron Tuesday and
returns home to host Flint Friday and Bloomington Saturday
before traveling to Fort Wayne Sunday.
Sunday's game is
the first Sunday afternoon game of the season in Fort Wayne
