Fort Wayne, IN — The defending Turner Cup Champion Fort Wayne Komets
took a split of two games played last week to continue on top of
the IHL after four weeks of play.
In review of last week's action, the Komets suffered a 6-4
setback at Muskegon Friday night allowing the Lumberjacks a
two-point gain on the Komets for the top spot in the IHL.
Saturday the Komets returned home to stop the Thunder from
Bloomington 6-4 and remain unbeaten at home in three appearances
so far.
Entering week five the Komets share the top spot in the IHL with
Muskegon. Both teams have identical records of 6-2-0-0 for
12 points.
For the first time this season, the Komets will skate three games
in three nights starting Thursday in Flint with a 7pm faceoff at
Perani Arena. The Generals have scheduled many Thursday
night home games this season and this will be the first of two
for the Komets. The third-place Generals are three points
behind the first-place Komets and are coming off a 5-2 loss at
Muskegon Saturday. Thursday night's match is the second of
16 meetings after the Generals were ambushed 11-3 by the Komets
in the Fort Wayne home opener Oct. 18.
Friday the Komets return to Fort
Wayne to host the Muskegon Lumberjacks at 8pm for a battle of
the two top teams in the IHL. The Komets remain undefeated
on home ice (3-0-0) and have a chance to avenge last Friday
night's 6-4 loss at Muskegon. Friday night's tilt is the
second of 15 meetings and first of eight visits by the
Lumberjacks this season. Muskegon is riding a three-game
winning streak. The 'Jacks are idle this week until they
travel to Fort Wayne Friday.
Saturday the Komets compete the week with a 7:30pm faceoff at
Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo. It's the second of eight
visits to Kalamazoo and the third of 16 meetings. The
Komets upended the Wings 5-1 in the last meeting on Halloween
night in Fort Wayne. The Wings were shut out at Port Huron
their last time out 5-0 for a two-game losing skid and are 2-3-0
in their last five games.
Komets leading the I: Center Mathieu
Curadeau has an IHL high nine goals (four-way tie). Left
wing P.C. Drouin has a league best two game winning goals
(four-way tie). Center Rick Varone leads rookies with six
goals, seven assists and 13 points along with a +10. Guy
