Fort Wayne, IN — The Fort Wayne Komets are off to a 4-0-0
start in defense of their Turner Cup championship after
posting two wins in the second week of the IHL's 2008-09
campaign.
Friday night the Komets powered past the PrairieThunder 7-4 at
Bloomington. Saturday the Komets spoiled the Wings' home
opener with a 2-1 win at Kalamazoo.
The Komets' 4-0-0 start is the longest undefeated start for head
coach Al Sims in six seasons as Komet head coach and it is the
best start for the Komets since 2001-02 when they registered six
straight wins before losing in a shootout. The Komets went
on to post a 7-0-2 record before suffering a regulation loss.
The Komets' longest winning streak to start the season was eight
games in 1978-79 before they lost to the Grand Rapids Owls in
Michigan 8-2.
Curadeau takes a hat......center Mathieu Curadeau
scored his second hat trick of his career, both with the Komets,
netting three goals in Friday night's 7-4 win at Bloomington.
Curadeau also added an assist in the match for a four-point
night. His hat trick was the second of the season for a
Komet after Dominic Osman's three-goal performance in the season
opener at Port Huron Friday night, Oct. 17.
Komets at the top of the IHL: The Komets
lead with eight points, 26 goals for and have the stingiest
defense already of 10 goals against in the four games played.
Center Colin Chaulk has posted an IHL best 10 assists and 11
points. Chaulk and teammate Jason Beckett rank at the top
of the IHL in
plus/minus with a +8. Center Mathieu Curadeau has a
league-high 3 power play tallies while center Rick Varone leads
rookies with 3 goals and 5 points. Veteran Guy Dupuis
leads IHL defensemen with 6 assists and 7 points.
Netminder Nick Boucher is off to an IHL best start of 2.00 goals-against
average and .930 save percentage in two games played.
Streaking Komets.....along with the Komets'
four-game winning streak, four-game point streaks have been
posted by Colin Chaulk (1g, 10a), Konstantin Shafranov (3g, 6a
and four-game assist streak) and Rick Varone (3g, 2a). Riding
three-game point streaks are P.C. Drouin (4g, 2a and three-game
goal streak) and David Hukalo (1g, 4a).
Osman placed on 30-day I.R......winger Dominic
Osman has been placed on the 30-day injured reserve list.
Osman suffered his injury in a game opening weekend and will be
out of action until Thanksgiving week. In two games
opening weekend he scored five goals including a hat trick and
added two assists for seven points and the IHL Player of the
Week Award for opening week.
Komets home for Hockey Halloween
Night.....the
Komets will return to coliseum ice this Friday night for
Halloween to host the Kalamazoo Wings at 8pm. All little ghosts and goblins
at the game will be invited to take part in the annual Halloween
parade on ice during the first
intermission. All kids in costume get a free Komet
Halloween bag of goodies. Fans will also be treated with a
free public skate, courtesy of Wendy's,
immediately following the game.

to it. This Friday fans arriving at the game will be
treated to the annual Komet magnetic schedule giveaway.
Thousands will be handed out to fans arriving at the game
