Komets Undefeated In Preseason Play

Fort Wayne, IN — The defending IHL Turner Cup Champion Fort Wayne Komets
completed their preseason slate undefeated with a 3-1 win over the visiting
Kalamazoo Wings Saturday night. The Komets swept all three exhibition tilts and
will continue to prepare for the 2008-09 season with daily practices in the week
ahead leading up to the season opener at Port Huron Friday night, Oct. 17 at
7:30pm.
Prior to last night's 3-1 win over the Wings at the coliseum, the Komets
opened the preseason with a 3-0 home shutout over the Bloomington PrairieThunder
Wednesday night. Friday the Komets clipped the Wings at Kalamazoo 6-5 before
returning home for the 3-1 win Saturday.
The Komets earned an IHL best six points with their 3-0-0 preseason record.
Veteran winger Konstantin Shafranov led the Komets with three goals, five points
and a +4 after appearing in two of the three Komet exhibition games.
Komets release eight players from camp.....the Komets announced today
that eight players have been released from training camp. The players released
were forwards Adam Sinewitz, Kevin Matheson, Adam Shirley, Roy Stevens and Ryan
Potts. Also released were defensemen Matthew Chromy and Vince Tarantino and
goalie Tim Haun.
The Komets' roster
slims down to 22 players including 12 forwards, eight defensemen and two
goaltenders.
Komets
home opener Saturday.....the Komets' 57th home opener is this Saturday
night, Oct. 18, against the Flint Generals. Pregame festivities are set to get
underway at 7:30pm sharp. Fans are encouraged to arrive early for the ceremonies
which include the introduction of Komet legends and the presentation of player
championship rings. Good seats remain available for opening night.
