Fort Wayne, IN — The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Tuesday that Komet defenseman Guy Dupuis has been named the 2008-09 Pepsi IHL Defenseman of the Year.

Dupuis has been honored as best defenseman three straight seasons.  In addition to being named the IHL's Best Defenseman last year, the veteran was tagged the 2006-07 UHL Best Defenseman.

Dupuis, 38, is skating his 19th pro season and 10th in the IHL.  He leads the league's defensemen for the third straight season with 51 assists and 67 points after appearing in all 73 Fort Wayne games to date and tops all defensemen in the IHL in plus/minus for the second consecutive year with a +32.

The Moncton, New Brunswick native is appearing in his 12th season with the Komets and is expected to break Fort Wayne's all time record of games played, both regular season and playoffs, when the Komets host Bloomington Wednesday night at 7:30pm.  Dupuis has skated 866 games as a Komet, tying Eddie Long's mark set 43 years ago in 1966.

Dupuis is a two-time Komet Turner Cup Champion (1992-93, 2007-08), six-time recipient of the Komets team plus/minus award and has snagged the Komets team defenseman of the year award the past three seasons in a row and six times overall.
