Fort Wayne, IN — For the second consecutive season, the Fort Wayne Komets teamed up with the U.S. Army to raise money for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.  And once again it was in front of a sellout crowd of 10,511 fans and over $10,000 was raised for the second consecutive year.

The Komets paid special tribute to the U.S. Army Saturday night, March 14th by sporting camouflage U.S. Army jerseys.  Fans were given the opportunity to place bids in a silent auction for these one of a kind jerseys, with proceeds donated directly to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.  In the end, $10,077 was raised, with the highest bid of $1,000 for Guy Dupuis’ number 2 jersey.

“We are very appreciative of the generosity of the Fort Wayne Komets Hockey team and their fans. The money raised from the jerseys will help provide a college education to more than 700 children of fallen special operations personnel," said John T. Carney, Jr., Special Operations Warrior Foundation President.

"The Special Operations Warrior Foundation is very fortunate to have caring and supportive Americans who care passionately about making sure the children of fallen special operations personnel are not forgotten."

The SOWF has 120 students enrolled in colleges and universities across the country. Funding provided by the SOWF includes tuition, books, fees, room and board.

For more than 29 years, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation has provided full college educations to the surviving children of fallen Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps special operations personnel.  For additional information, visit online at www.specialops.org.

The Komets will make the donation with a check presentation during the Komets last regular season home game against the Bloomington Prairie Thunder Saturday, April 11th.  Tickets for this game are on sale at the Coliseum Ticket Office and online at www.ticketmaster.com. The Komets offer discounts on group tickets sold at the Komet office at 1010 Memorial Way in Fort Wayne.
