Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets completed week 10 of 2007-08 at the top of
the IHL with a 15-6-3-1 record for 34 points and continued to hold first place
for the third consecutive week.
-IHL Standings-
This week the Komets will get busy skating 4 games in 5 nights to close out
the 2007 portion of the season. Three of those games are home games. Thursday,
Jan. 27 the Komets host Bloomington (9-15-2-0) at 7:30pm. It's the 6th of 16
meetings this season as the Komets lead the series 3-2-0-0. The Thunder have
lost their last 4 straight games and rest on the bottom of the IHL with 20
points.
Friday the Komets travel to Flint to face the Generals at Perani Arena at
7:30pm. It's the opener of a home-and-home series and will be a battle between
the two top teams in the league. Going into this week's play the Generals are 1
point behind the first-place Komets and have 2 games in hand. Flint (14-4-1-4)
is 6-2-1-1 in the last 10 games played and own the IHL's best home record at
8-4-0-2. It's only the second meeting of the season. The Komets clipped the
Generals 3-2 in a shootout Nov. 23. The Komets and Generals travel back to Fort
Wayne for a Saturday night faceoff at 7:30pm.
The Komets will complete the 2007 stanza of the season with the traditional
Fort Wayne New Year's Eve game against Bloomington Monday night at 7:30. It will
be the 51st Komet home game to ring in the new year. Last year the Komets
defeated the visiting Chicago Hounds 4-2 to improve to 33-13-1-3 in Komet home
games on New Year's Eve.
The Komets will waste no time opening 2008 with a home tilt Wednesday, Jan. 2
against Muskegon at 7:30pm.

Posters, Rulers, Calendars.....Komet fans will be treated to special
giveaways at the door at Komet home games this week. Thursday night, the IHL's
Rookie of the Week and leading scorer Luciano Aquino will be featured on quality
posters given away to fans entering the game courtesy of New Haven Print and
Copy. Fans can also take advantage of a special free Wendy's Holiday Skate
immediately following the Komets-Bloomington game. Saturday night measures up
with Komet rulers to be handed out to the first 2,500 through the turnstiles
courtesy of Mark Fore Sales and Sports Den. On New Year's Eve the first 5,000
Komet fans will be treated to a premium quality Comcast Komet Legends 2008
Calendar.
IHL honors 3 Komets.....The Komets snagged 3 of the 4 IHL weekly
honors for the period ending Sunday, Dec. 23. Nick Boucher was named the
Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week. Boucher won both games played
and currently leads IHL goalies with a 2.17 goals-against-average. Last week the
netminder had 62 saves on 66 shots for a 2.00 goals-against-average. Luciano
Aquino (RW) was named Aquifina IHL Rookie of the Week for the third time
this season scoring 3 goals and passing 2 assist for 5 points in 3 games. Aquino
currently leads the IHL with 32 points and tops all rookies with 15 goals and 17
assists. Veteran Guy Dupuis was named the Pepsi IHL Defenseman of the
Week for the second time this season netting 2 goals and an assist for 3 points
in 3 games while posting a +2 plus/minus rating.
Streaking Komets.....3 Komets scored points in each of the 3 games
played last week. Colin Chaulk (C) has a goal and 7 assists for a 3-game point
streak of 8 points, Terry Marchant (C) is riding a 3-game point streak of 2
goals and 2 assists and Luciano Aquino (RW) has points in 3 straight games (3
goals, 2 assists).....goaltender Nick Boucher has won his last 5 straight
starts.....the Komets have won 5 straight road games.
Leading the "I": Nick Boucher leads goalies with 2.17 goals against
average, Luciano Aquino (RW) leads with 32 points and tops all rookies with 15
goals and 17 assists, Kevin Bertram (D) leads with 126 penalty minutes and the
Komets lead with 698 penalty minutes.
