KOMETS CELEBRATE 56th HOME OPENER WITH 4-0 WIN
Kevin Reiter posts 8th career shutout
PrairieThunder rolls in Saturday

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets pleased a home opening crowd of 10,153 faithful with a 4-0 feathering of the visiting Port Huron IceHawks Saturday night at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne. It was the 6th straight Komet home opener in front of over 10,000 fans. The Komets extended their home-opener unbeaten streak to 13 and improved to 35-13-1-7 in 56 openers at home. Saturday night's game marked Fort Wayne's 3,525th IHL regular season game.

Fort Wayne netminder Kevin Reiter started the season with his 8th career shutout on 30 saves for first star of the game and last season's Defenseman of the Year Guy Dupuis passed 3 assists to earn second star honors. Rookie Olivier Legault tallied his first career goal and point while wingers David Hukalo (FG, GW) and Luciano Aquino and center Mathieu Curadeau added a mark each. The Komets were 2/8 on the power play, Port Huron 0/7.

This week the Komets skate at Bloomington Friday night and return to the Memorial Coliseum Saturday to host the PrairieThunder to cap a home-and-home series for the weekend. Bloomington began the season with a 5-1 win at Flint Saturday night. This Saturday night's home game will be the first of 8 visits this season by the PrairieThunder. Last season the Komets were 6-4-0 in 10 meetings with Bloomington and 3-2-0 at home against the Thunder.

Leading Komets..... with only one week and one game in the books for the Komets, defenseman Guy Dupuis leads the IHL with 3 assists and is in a 3-way tie for point leader with 3 points. Kevin Reiter posted the only shutout of the opening week in the IHL to top league netminders with a .00 goals-against-average and 1.000 save percentage. The Komets registered the most shots in a game last week with 44 on Port Huron's goalie Marty Magers.   -Komet teamstats-   -IHL Standings-

Special K's.....the Komets stopped all 8 Port Huron power plays and scored 2 power play tallies in 8 opportunities for a league-high 25.0% power play rating.
