--- The Komet's training camp for 2007-08 opened Monday morning with player
physicals followed by a noon press luncheon and the first official skate of camp
at 2:30pm at the Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne.
Komet head coach and director of
player personnel Al Sims will guide his Komet squad of 27 players through camp
in preparation of the season and home opener against the Port Huron IceHawks
Saturday, Oct. 20, as the Komets begin their 56th season of play in Fort Wayne
and celebrate the return of the International Hockey League.
-Preseason Roster-
The 76-game IHL schedule slates
38 home games and 38 road games and is included in this release on page 4.
2007-08 marks the first Komet IHL schedule since 1998-99 when the Komets
completed their 47th IHL campaign. Besides Fort Wayne, the 6-member IHL includes
the Flint Generals, Kalamazoo Wings, Port Huron IceHawks, Muskegon Fury and the
Bloomington (Illinois) PrairieThunder. Teams will compete in the regular season
for the IHL's Huber Trophy with the Turner Cup awarded to the playoff champion.
-Komet Schedule-
The Komets will conduct all
training camp practices at the coliseum at 10am each day with the exception of
Friday, Oct. 19 which will be held at McMillen Ice Arena from 9:30am-11:30am.
The team will get a day off Sunday, Oct. 14. The complete training camp and

Players returning to the Komets
from last year include captain Guy Dupuis (D), David Hukalo (RW), Terry Marchant
(C) and Kevin Hansen (D). Three players are returning as Komets from previous
stints in Fort Wayne including veteran center Colin Chaulk. Chaulk is returning
from a stint in Italy last season and will serve as player/assistant coach.
Kevin Bertram returns to the Komet lineup after taking the last 2 seasons off to
pursue a Fort Wayne Fireman career. Bertram skated on the Komet's defense 4
seasons in the UHL from 2001-2005. Also returning is winger Konstantin Shafranov.
Shafranov last played in Fort Wayne during the 1999-2000 UHL campaign and has
appeared in elite Russian league play over the past 7 years since.
Komet home games will continue to
start under the same arrangement as last year. Monday-Thursday and Saturday
games faceoff at 7:30pm at the coliseum. Friday games will begin at 8pm and
Sunday games will start at 5pm. The Komets will continue the Thanksgiving day
game again this year hosting the Port Huron IceHawks at 7:30pm on turkey night.
The annually celebrated New Year's Eve game will bring in the Bloomington
PrairieThunder for a 7:30pm faceoff.

this year with Bob Chase at the Fort Wayne microphone for his 55th consecutive
