--- The Komets announced Wednesday that 4 players have been added to the 2007-08
roster. Right winger David Hukalo, defenseman Kevin Bertram, right winger Bobby
Kukulka and forward Travis Granbois have each agreed to terms for the upcoming
campaign.
Hukalo
(HUCK-uh-low), 28, will return for his 4th season with the Komets. 2007-08 will
be his 5th pro season after starting his career in 2003-04 appearing in 40 games
with the Kalamazoo Wings. Hukalo was acquired by the Komets after skating 11
games with the Wings at the start of the 2004-05 season. Last season the
Edmonton, Alberta native posted a career high 17 goals and 33 points in 62 Komet
games and was named 2006-07 UHL Best Defensive Forward. "Re-signing David was a
top priority," said Komet general manager David Franke. "He had a break-out year
goal scoring last year and we look for him to contribute even more offensively
this season. He will also be a top penalty killer for coach Al Sims."
Bertram
(BURR-trumm), 30, will be entering his 6th pro season. He skated parts of 4
seasons with the Komets from 2001-02 to 2004-05. The defenseman was voted Komet
Defenseman of the Year for 2001-02 and was a member of the 2003 Colonial Cup
Champion Komets. Bertram joined the Fort Wayne Fire Department in 2005 and has
decided to return to the Komet blue line for 2007-08. "Kevin is unretiring from
Hockey," said Franke. "He was an important part of our Colonial Cup Championship
team and is in great shape and anxious to get back on the ice. He is a physical
player and fits the style of hockey which will be played in the IHL this
season."
Kukulka
(kuh-KULL-kuh), 23, will be starting his 4th pro season after playing the first
3 seasons of his career in the UHL. Last year he skated UHL stints with Port
Huron and Elmira registering 24 goals and 36 points in 50 games. Kukulka was
acquired by the Komets in the 2007 IHL Dispersal Draft,
chosen in the 12th round. Kukulka hails from Macomb, Michigan.
Granbois
(grann-bwaa), 21, made his pro debut with Quad City last season in the UHL
appearing in 45 games scoring 3 goals, 8 points and accumulating 77 penalty
minutes. The 200-pound, 6-foot-one forward hails from Campbell River, British
Columbia and was a 7th-round pick by the Komets in the 2007
IHL Dispersal Draft.
Hukalo, Bertram, Kukulka and
Granbois join veteran defenseman Guy Dupuis on the Komet roster.
