KOMETS SIGN GUY
DUPUIS Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets announced Tuesday that veteran defenseman Guy Dupuis has agreed to terms and will guard the Fort Wayne blue line for the 11th season of his career.
The Moncton, New Brunswick native started his career in 1990 with Adirondack of the AHL after being the Detroit Red Wing's 3rd choice in the NHL 1988 Entry Draft. Dupuis first appeared with the Komets during the 1991-92 IHL season skating 10 games for Komet head coach Al Sims. "Guy and I go back a long time and to sign a player like him was a top priority for us this summer," said Sims. "Guy has proven to be one of the best defensemen in the league and invaluable on the power play. He's a quality person, leads by example and his leadership is huge for us." Dupuis skated for the Komets for 7 consecutive seasons before jumping to the AHL in 1999. He appeared in stints with Hershey and Chicago and then played 2 seasons in Europe before returning to the states to skate with Bakersfield in the WCHL 2002-03. Dupuis joined the Kalamazoo Wings UHL for 2003-04 and returned to Bakersfield for 2004-05 before returning to Fort Wayne in 2005. Dupuis was a member of the Komet's 1993 IHL Turner Cup Championship team, is a 5-time recipient of the Komet's Defenseman of the Year Award, 5-time recipient of the Komet's Plus/Minus Award and 2-time recipient of Fort Wayne's Bud Gallmeier Memorial Trophy for community service. Last season Dupuis was selected
to the UHL All-Star Team for his 3rd UHL All-Star appearance and was named to
the 2007 All-UHL First Team. In addition, Dupuis was honored with the league's
Best Defenseman Award for 2006-07. Dupuis led all UHL defensemen with a career
high 65 assists and 76 points and topped the Komets in post-season play with 5
goals, 6 assists and 11 points in 10 games. Dupuis also was a league-leader with
39 power-play assists and ranked 4th with 8 power play tallies. |
