Hockey League announced Wednesday that Fort Wayne has won four end-of-season
awards for 2007-08.
Komet
defenseman Guy Dupuis was named the Pepsi IHL Defenseman of the Year and the IHL
Most Sportsmanlike Player of the Year. Dupuis, 37, is skating his 18th pro year
and 11th with Fort Wayne. He currently leads IHL defensemen with 41 assists and
52 points and tops the IHL with a +34 after 62 games. Dupuis also has earned the
Defenseman of the Week honors four times and the Defenseman of the Month award
three times during the current campaign. The Moncton, New Brunswick native also
won the UHL Defenseman of the Year award last season and is a five-time
recipient of the Komets' Defenseman of the Year team award.
Right
winger David Hukalo was named the IHL Outstanding Defensive Forward of the Year.
Hukalo also won the UHL's Defensive Forward of the Year and the Komets'
Stonewall Defensive Forward of the Year team award last season. The skater has
registered career highs of 19 goals, 23 assists, 42 points and +31 in 67 games
this season and leads the Komets with three short-handed tallies this season.
Hukalo, 29, hails from Edmonton, Alberta, and is appearing in his fifth pro
season and fourth stint with Fort Wayne. He has .
In addition to player awards, the IHL also announced Wednesday that Fort
Wayne Komets President Michael Franke was named the IHL Executive of the Year as
part of the front office awards. The award is selected by the IHL Board of
Governors.
