Fort Wayne, IN --- The first-place Komets won all three games played to
gain six points in week 16 and increase their margin over second-place Flint to
12 points. The Komets improved to 30-11-3-1 for 64 points and matched last
season's pace of 30 wins after 45 games.
-IHL Standings-
The Komets started the week with a 5-2 win at Bloomington Wednesday. Friday
the Komets posted an IHL high 11th straight home win shutting out the visiting
Flint Generals 5-0. Saturday the Komets posted their fourth straight win over
Kalamazoo 5-2 and are unbeaten in eight straight games at Kalamazoo dating back
to Jan. 13, 2007.
Aquino, Reiter, players of January.....the IHL announced Friday, Feb.
1, that Fort Wayne winger Luciano Aquino was named the Aquafina Rookie of the
Month and Komet goalie Kevin Reiter was named the Southern Sports Supply
Goaltender of the Month for January. Aquino gets the nod for Rookie of the Month
for the third straight month after scoring 13 points (5 goals, 8 assists) during
January. Reiter snagged his second monthly honor of the year after completing
January with a 1.96 goals-against average and .929 save percentage. Reiter
registered four shutouts in the month including a Komet's record three
consecutive shutouts.
Komets home for three this week
Wednesday the Komets begin a three-game home stand and a stretch of five
straight home games in 10 nights when the Flint Generals return for a 7:30pm
faceoff. The Komets lead the series 4-2-0-0 and are 3-0-0-0 against the Generals
on Fort Wayne ice. The Generals are winless in their last four games after
suffering a 4-2 setback at Port Huron Saturday night. Flint's last win came
against the Komets 5-1 at Perani Arena Jan. 25. Eric Marvin has appeared in the
Flint goal nine straight games and forward Michel Beausoleil is top General with
49 points including eight power play tallies.
Friday the Komets host Port Huron at 8pm. The Komets have a five-game win
streak against Port Huron and are unbeaten by the IceHawks six straight. The
Komets took a 2-0 shutout win out of Port Huron in the last meeting Jan. 19.
It's the 11th of 15 meetings as Fort Wayne leads the season series 7-2-1-0.
Forward Tab Lardner leads Port Huron with 29 goals and 53 points. The IceHawks
begin the week in third place, two points behind Flint in the race for
second-place and are riding a five-game unbeaten streak (4-0-0-1). The Hawks
host Kalamazoo Thursday before traveling to Fort Wayne Friday.
The Komets will enjoy their only Saturday night off of the season before
completing the home tripleheader week Sunday when Bloomington visits for a 5pm
faceoff. The PrairieThunder are 10 points out of a playoff spot and enter week
17 coming off a 2-1 overtime win at Muskegon Saturday night. Bloomington is
2-5-0-0 in their last seven games. Sunday's game will be the 10th meeting this
season. The Komets hold a 6-3-0-0 season series lead, 4-1-0-0 in Fort Wayne.
Veteran Don Parsons leads the Thunder with 24 assists and 42 points. The
PrairieThunder are idle until they visit Fort Wayne Sunday.

and 11-game home winning streak, P.C. Drouin (LW) has an IHL high eight-game
point and assist scoring streak (2 goals, 10 assists). Luciano Aquino (3 goals,
3 assists), Mathieu Curadeau (2 goals, 3 assists) and Colin Chaulk (2 goals, 4
assists) each pointed in games played last week for three-game point scoring
streaks. Goaltender Nick Boucher has won his last eight straight starts.
Defenseman Kevin Bertram has been even or better on the plus/minus 27 straight
games. Bertram's only minus game this season was Dec. 1 (-1), a 4-3 home loss to
Bloomington.
Milestones: Winger Matt Reynolds registered his 100th pro point
(assist) in Friday's 5-0 win over the visiting Flint Generals. Defenseman Guy
Dupuis has skated 698 Komet career games and is expected to hit 700 Friday when
