Komets Chaulk, Aquino earn IHL weekly honors

Fort Wayne, IN --- The IHL announced Monday that center Colin Chaulk has been named National City Forward of the Week and Luciano Aquino has been honored as Aquafina Rookie of the week for the period ending Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008.

Chaulk, 31, receives the weekly award for the first time this season after posting two goals and adding four assists for six points in three games. The veteran center also registered a plus/minus of plus-five and accumulated six penalty minutes. Chaulk scored the first goal of a 5-2 win at Bloomington Wednesday. He passed three assists and scored the fifth goal of a 5-0 home win against Flint Friday for a four-point night. Saturday Chaulk completed the week dishing an assist on the game winning goal of a 5-2 win at Kalamazoo to cap a three-game point scoring streak. Chaulk has skated all 45 Komet games to date and leads Fort Wayne with 31 assists.

Aquino, 23, gets his fourth weekly award for scoring six points in the three games played during the week including three goals and three assists. The rookie right winger notched a three-point night Wednesday scoring two goals and adding an assist at Bloomington. Friday Aquino contributed two assists in Fort Wayne against the Generals. Saturday the Mississauga, Ontario native completed the week scoring the first Fort Wayne goal at Kalamazoo to finish the week with a three-game point streak. Aquino tops the Komets and ranks first among IHL rookies with 23 goals and 53 points after skating all 45 games. Aquino has also been named IHL Rookie of the Month three times this season for November, December and January.

The IHL also announced that Port Huron defenseman Mark DeSantis has been named the Pepsi Defenseman of the Week and Port Huron's Larry Sterling has been named the Southern Sports Supply Goaltender of the Week.

The Komets are home for three games this week. Wednesday Flint returns for a 7:30pm faceoff. Friday the Komets host Port Huron at 8pm and Sunday the Bloomington visits for a 5pm start.
