Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets completed week 14 of 2007-08 sweeping all
three games played and extending their win string to six games. The Komets
improved to 27-9-3-1 for 58 points, six points better than last year's mark
after 40 games, and a nine-point bulge over second-place Flint at the mid-point
of the season.
-IHL Standings-
The Komets began their three-game week with a 4-2 win at home Wednesday night
over Flint. It was the second of four Wednesday night home games this season and
the ninth straight home win for the Komets on a Wednesday night. The last time
the Komets lost on a Wednesday was Feb. 23, 2005 vs. Flint.
Friday the Komets edged the visiting Muskegon Fury 2-1 for their 10th
straight home win. It was the last game on home ice until Feb. 1 as the Komets
make way for the Circus at the Memorial Coliseum.
Saturday the Komets began their two-week road tour with a 2-0 shutout win at
Port Huron. It was the second straight shutout against the IceHawks and the
Komet's fifth straight win over Port Huron. It capped the busiest stretch of the
season for the Komets as they skated 15 games in 24 nights (12-3-0-0). During
that period the Komets were unbeaten at home for their current 10-game home win
string. The Komets have not lost at home since Dec. 21 (6-4 loss vs. Kalamazoo).
The Komets will skate two road games this weekend starting with a 7:30 faceoff
this Friday night at Flint. The Komets lead the series 3-1-0-0 after winning the
last two meetings. The Generals are coming off their first win in four games
Saturday night 4-1 at Bloomington. Flint is 6-4-3-2 in their last 15 games since
posting a six-game win string.
Saturday the Komets face the Fury in Muskegon at 7:30pm. The Komets have won
the last two meetings with Muskegon and lead the series 5-2-1-1. The Fury is
3-2-0-0 in their last five games and are coming off a 4-3 loss to Kalamazoo
Saturday night at Walker Arena. Muskegon will host Bloomington Friday before
welcoming the Komets Saturday.
All's right with Reiter.....Kevin Reiter continues to distance
himself from all IHL goaltenders registering three wins for the week for a total
of 18 on the season, one shy of his career best 19 wins in 2004-05 with
Missouri, extending his win streak to six games and adding his fifth shutout of
the season and fourth in six games. Reiter now leads IHL goalies with 18 wins, a
2.20 goals-against average and .915 save percentage in 30 games. Reiter has
appeared in the last 15 consecutive Fort Wayne games and has started the last 14
straight (11-3-0-0) on eight nights rest.
In Reiter's last six appearances he is 6-0-0-0, three goals against for a
0.50 goals-against average, has stopped 161 of 164 shots for a .982 save
percentage, has four shutouts and has been successful on 34 of 35 penalty kills.
