Fort Wayne, IN --- The IHL announced Monday that Kevin Reiter has been
named the Southern Sports Supply Goaltender of the Week and winger Konstantin
Shafranov has been named National City Forward of the Week for the period ending
Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008.
Reiter
registered a 3-1-0-0 record in four appearances and finished the week posting
three straight shutouts to earn his second consecutive weekly honor. The goalie
allowed five goals on 95 shots for the week for a 1.29 goals-against average and
.947 save percentage. Reiter bounced back from a 5-4 setback in Bloomington Wednesday to turn back the visiting Muskegon Fury
3-0 Friday. Saturday Reiter stoned the Wings in Kalamazoo 4-0 and Sunday the
Fort Wayne netminder victimized the IceHawks from Port Huron 3-0 for his third
consecutive shutout. Reiter leads IHL netminders with 15 wins, a 2.44
goals-against average and .908 save percentage. He has started the last 11
straight games and is riding a three-game winning streak and registered seven
straight wins at home.
Reiter is the first goaltender in the 56-year history of the Fort Wayne
Komets to register three straight shutouts and has not given up a goal in 180
consecutive minutes. Mike O'Neill holds the Komet record for longest shutout
sequence by a goaltender with 198 minutes, 26 seconds set in 1991 over a period
of 4 appearances from Nov. 15 to Nov. 24.
Shafranov
skated all four games during the week and netted five goals on seven shots and
added an assist for a six-point week. Shafranov scored a pair of goals in the
5-4 loss at Bloomington Wednesday. He registered a goal in the 3-0 home win
against Muskegon Friday. Saturday Shafranov scored the first goal of the game
and added an assist on the second goal of the 3-0 win at Kalamazoo. Sunday
Shafranov scored his thirteenth tally of the season on the power play in the
Komet's 3-0 home win against Port Huron. Shafranov has an IHL season-high point
and goal-scoring streak of six games (8g, 1a). He posted a +4 for the week and
surrendered no goals to the opposition while he was on the ice.
The IHL also announced that Flint's Martin Ondrej was named the Pepsi
Defenseman of the Week and Bloomington goalie Loic Lacasse was named the
Aquafina Rookie of the Week.
