-- The Komets collected four points for week four of 2012-13 with a sweep
of a two-game road trip over the weekend.
Friday the Komets made their first visit to Toledo since 1985 and initiated the renewed rivalry
with a 4-3 win. The Komets made their
second of 10 visits this season to Kalamazoo
Saturday and capped the week with a 6-5 victory to improve to 5-2-1 and 11
points after eight games. The Komets
moved to within three points of division rival Cincinnati and trail ECHL leaders Gwinnett
and Stockton by four points.
The Komets are riding their first three-game win string going into week five of
the campaign. This week the Komets will
skate three games beginning with a 10:35am start at Toledo Wednesday. Friday the Komets will return home to host Evansville at 8pm and
Saturday the Komets return to Kalamazoo Wings Stadium for a 7:30pm faceoff.
Broadcast note—Due to scheduling
conflicts at WOWO radio, the Komets game Wednesday morning at Toledo will be aired on ESPN radio AM 1380
and FM 106.7. Friday’s home game against
the IceMen and Saturday’s match at Kalamazoo
are expected to be aired on WOWO radio AM 1190 and FM 92.3.
Komet leaders of the week—Newcomer Thomas Beauregard (RW),
skating his first two games with the Komets, scored the game winning goal
Friday at Toledo and added another game winner along with a hat trick Saturday
afternoon at Kalamazoo for a four-goal, four-point week. Brandon Marino (RW), Colin Chaulk (C) and
Nick Schaus (D) each passed three assists in the two-games played for
three-point weeks.
Komet leaders—Marino (RW) leads the Komets
with five goals and 14 points after eight games. Chaulk leads with 10 assists and Daniel
Maggio (D) leads with +six.
Streaking Komets—Goaltender Charlie
Effinger posted his third straight win Saturday at Kalamazoo in his third straight
appearance. Marino has points in five
straight games (2g, 7a) and has a three-game assist streak (4a). Chaulk is riding a five-game assist streak
(7a).
Milestone watching—Aiming for 100: Right
wing Thomas Beauregard posted ECHL career goals (all-time, regular season and
playoffs) 97, 98, and 99 with his hat trick Saturday at Kalamazoo.
Also, the Komets have played 4,498 regular season games since the team was established
in Fort Wayne
in 1952. Game 4,500 will be this Friday,
Nov. 9 when the Komets host Evansville
at 8pm.
GAMES THIS WEEK
• Wednesday at Toledo
Walleye (4-4-1), 10:35am—The Komets return to Huntington
Center in downtown Toledo Wednesday for a rare morning contest
against the Walleye. The Komets edged
the Walleye at Toledo
last Friday night 4-3. This Wednesday’s
match with be the second of four trips this season to Toledo. The next trip will be Feb. 17. The North Division rival Walleye trail the Komets by two points and have
lost their last three outings.
• Friday vs Evansville IceMen (2-6-1), 8pm—The
IceMen make their second of six visits to Fort
Wayne Friday. The
Komets lead the season series 2-0-0 after a 4-3 home shootout win Oct. 20 in
the last meeting. Evansville
is coming off a successful weekend winning their first two games of the season
and will host Greenville Tuesday and Wednesday
before traveling to Fort Wayne
Friday.
• Saturday at Kalamazoo Wings (5-4-0), 7:30pm--
The Komets will bus to Kalamazoo
for the second straight Saturday game at Wings Stadium. Last Saturday the Komets clipped the Wings
6-5 in a matinee game to even the season series 1-1-0. Kalamazoo
completed last week on a three-game losing streak and will host South Caroline
this Wednesday morning and Friday night before welcoming the Komets Saturday.
