Komets add Bobby Hughes to roster

Fort Wayne, IN ---  The Komets announced Monday that center Bobby Hughes has been acquired from the Alaska Aces in a trade for future considerations.

Hughes, 25, will be entering his seventh pro year after serving stints in the AHL, ECHL, CHL and Germany over his past six professional campaigns.

"Bobby Hughes will be one of our top six forwards this season," said Komet general manager David Franke.  "He will add greatly to our center ice position and he brings a lot of experience to the club at only 25 years old."

Prior to turning pro, Hughes served four seasons with the Kingston Frontenacs in the OHL from 2003-2007.  He was one of the premier players in the OHL and led Kingston in scoring with 40 goals, 56 assists and 96 points in 59 games during his final season of junior play in 2006-07.

The Richmond Hill, Ontario native was selected by Carolina in round 4 of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft and made his pro debut appearing in on playoff game with the AHL's Albany River Rats in 2007.  From 2007-08 to 2010-11 the center skated in the AHL, ECHL and CHL.  

Hughes played a shortened season of 10 games in Germany during 2011-12 making an impact with six goals and 15 points and adding five goals and four assists in six playoff tilts.

Last season Hughes skated his first complete ECHL season appearing in 59 games with Alaska posting 15 goals and 39 points en route to the Brabham Cup (Regular Season Championship) before leading the Aces to the ECHL Presidents' Cup Finals scoring team highs of nine goals, eight assists and 17 points in 11 playoff games.  

The Komets' 2013-14 roster grows to 16 players with the addition of Hughes.  The lineup currently includes 10 forwards and six defensemen.

The Komets will open 2013-14 at home against the Toledo Walleye Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7:30pm.  The Komets' 62nd season in Fort Wayne features 36 home games while 36 road games are on the docket.  View the entire 72-game schedule here.
