IN ---The Komets will host
the Kalamazoo Wings tonight for the traditional Thanksgiving game in Fort Wayne at 7:30. It’s the 51st consecutive Fort Wayne home game to be played on Thanksgiving and the
52nd overall since the first Thanksgiving game in Fort Wayne Nov. 28, 1957. The Komets are 32-15-4 at home on
Thanksgiving and have won the last four.
The Komets and Kalamazoo are battling to gain
ground on North Division leader Toledo. The Komets (7-5-1, 15 points) trail the Walleye
(9-6-1, 19 points) by four points and the Wings (8-7-0, 16 points) trail by
three. The Komets have had been idle
this week while Kalamazoo completed a three-game series at Orlando Tuesday with
a 4-3 win, snapping a two-game losing skid.
D-man Guentzel assigned to Komets—Defenseman Gabe Guentzel has been
assigned to the Komets from Norfolk
of the AHL. Guentzel has appeared in six
games with Norfolk
this season scoring an assist and six penalty minutes. The Woodbury, Minnesota
native made his pro debut last season with Syracuse
of the AHL skating 12 games at the end of the season after completing four
seasons in the WCHA at Colorado
College. Guentzel was
named to the 2011-12 WCHA All-Second Team and led Colorado College
defensemen with 22 assists and 26 points. Guentzel is expected to be in the lineup tonight when the Komets host Kalamazoo.
COATS FOR KIDS CONTINUES
TONIGHT AND SATURDAY—The annual Komets Coats-For-Kids holiday drive, sponsored by Kroger and
21 Alive, will continue with tonight’s annual Thanksgiving home game and
Saturday when the Komets host Toledo at 7:30pm. Fans are asked to bring gently used or new Kid’s coats, sizes 6-14, plus
new mittens, hats and scarves to the Coats-For-Kids games. Fans will get 10 free chuck-a-pucks from
Kroger when bringing an item to one of the three Coats-For-Kids games.
